Ahead of their special set at Summer Breeze Open Air, scheduled for early Friday from 1:15 to 2:15 AM, Kanonenfieber has released their latest track “Z-Vor!”, continuing their narrative exploration of World War I.
The song is part of the Soldatenschicksale project, a conceptual work aimed at preserving the personal stories of anonymous soldiers, shifting focus from abstract statistics to the faces and voices of those who served. It covers events ranging from the American landings on the Western Front and the brutal winter war in the East, to naval battles in the North Sea, including the Skagerrak—the largest sea battle of the conflict.
Soldatenschicksale compiles reworked versions of “Yankee Division” (2022), “Der Füsilier” (2023), and “U-Bootsmann” (2023), along with two brand-new tracks expanding its scope. Each piece serves as an intimate testament, reminding listeners that behind every uniform was a life abruptly cut short.
In March 2026, the band will embark on the Soldatenschicksale 2026 tour, joined by Mental Cruelty. On March 27th, Kanonenfieber will host Kanonenfest at Bamberg’s Brose Arena, featuring a traveling World War I museum and an exhibition by illustrator Daniel Bechthold.
With this release, Kanonenfieber strengthens their artistic mission to transform extreme music into a medium for historical remembrance, turning wartime narratives into powerful sonic experiences.
