Halestorm have unveiled the official music video for ‘Darkness Always Wins’, a powerful hard rock ballad that serves as the second preview of their upcoming album, Everest, due out August 8. Directed by DJay Brawner, the video features Lzzy Hale as a dark heroine in a medieval-inspired setting, wielding a sword and facing off against shadowy figures in a visual depiction steeped in symbolism about inner struggle and resilience.
The song was written and recorded in just two days during a session in Savannah, Georgia, with producer Dave Cobb. That experience served as the creative spark for the entire album. In the words of the band members, "Darkness Always Wins" was the emotional starting point for Everest, marking a new stage of sonic exploration for Halestorm.
Musically, the song builds on a foundation of melancholic piano, tense strings, and ambient synths that culminate in a powerful climax of distorted guitars and explosive drums. Hale's vocal performance is intense, emotional, and vulnerable. The lyrics address an acceptance of darkness as an inevitable part of existence, without surrendering to it. It's not a message of hope or despair, but a stark reflection of reality and the human impulse to move forward.
This new release follows the album's first single, the self-titled track "Everest," and arrives just ahead of a series of important live performances. Halestorm will support Iron Maiden on their European tour, perform at Black Sabbath's final concert in July, and tour the United States with Volbeat. Additionally, the band has announced their own North American tour, titled "nEVEREST," on which they will share the stage with Lindsey Stirling and Apocalyptica.
With Everest, Halestorm seeks to consolidate their artistic evolution, fusing their rock roots with a more introspective and cinematic narrative. “Darkness Always Wins” is a clear example of this ambition: a song that impresses not only with its sound, but also with the honesty of its message and the visual power that accompanies it.
