Portuguese masked collective GAEREA has announced their forthcoming album Loss, due for release on March 20, 2026, via Century Media Records. Known for pushing beyond the confines of black metal, the band continues to blur lines between extremity, art, and catharsis.
Over the course of just under a decade, GAEREA has crafted a distinctive sound that fuses blackened ferocity, post-rock atmosphere, and avant-garde artistry. Loss, their first album for Century Media, finds the group transforming once again — embracing melodic textures and even clean vocals, all while maintaining their signature tension between despair and transcendence.
Their new single “Hellbound”, out today, stands as a searing statement of intent. It delves into guilt, heartbreak, and self-destruction with blistering riffs and unrelenting emotion. Accompanied by a visually arresting video filled with fire, thorns, and restless spirits, the song captures the fragile balance between vulnerability and aggression.
“It’s not about the individual or seeing our faces,” says the band’s anonymous vocalist. “I want people to connect with the music and the lyrics and apply them to their own lives.” This ethos has forged a deep bond between GAEREA and their fans — collectively known as The Vortex Society — a shared consciousness exploring the human condition through sound and ritual.
Recorded in Portugal with longtime collaborator Miguel Teroso at Demigod Recordings, Loss marks the first GAEREA release with a fully unified lineup. Musically and emotionally, the album strips away all barriers, delivering raw passion and creative freedom.
