Dream Theater announced the European dates of its 2024-205 tour which it will use to celebrate its first 40 years of existence and will also be the first tour in more than a decade to feature drummer and founder Mike Portnoy, who rejoined the band a few months ago.
“Before the COVID pandemic, if you had asked me or any of these guys, ‘Is there a chance for a reunion?’ I most likely would have said, “I doubt that will happen.” I think if lockdown hadn't happened they probably would have been on tour and I would have been on tour with one of my 48 bands, but once we were all in lockdown John asked me to play on his solo album. From there, Jordan, John and I made the Liquid Tension Experiment album. And then I did the tour with John. So there was this series of events to reconnect us, not only on a musical level but also on a personal level for many years before that,” says Portnoy a Rolling Stone. “Our family are friends with each other. My daughter and John's daughter shared an apartment for many, many years. John Myung lives right down the block from me, and his wife is at my house every night. There were a series of events both personal and musical that started to feel like, 'Well, maybe this can really happen. Maybe this is the right time.'”
