“Debes saber disfrutar lo que haces”: Simone Simons [EPICA]

For almost a decade, the name of Simone simons It has become an icon in the world of metal and one of the largest representatives of women within the genre.

As part of the promotion of his most recent record production alongside Epic, 'The Holographic Principle'Simone returns to Mexico just one year after her participation in Corona Hell & Heaven Metal Fest 2016, to give various dates in a country that receives her like few others.

This is her seventh studio album, how involved were you in the process?

The truth is, I don't get too involved in composition, production and stuff. I try to do my part doing what I do best and focusing on the voices.

For this album they left aside the samples and preferred to do everything in an orchestral way.

We as a band always try to make everything sound as natural as possible. For 'The Holographic Principle' we worked with an orchestra with whom we had collaborated before, because we love the result of doing things with them.

Many fans say this is their most melodic work, was it planned? Was it what you wanted to achieve?

No, nothing was planned. Epica It is a band that does not try to force anything or dream in a specific way, but rather lets everything flow. We like square things and we prefer that everything is arranged in its place.

What is your favorite song from The Holographic Principle and why? What was the most you enjoyed doing?I really enjoyed the title song; in fact when I listen to it it's like a musical journey. I love backing vocals, you know, it's really epic (laughs). As a good summary of the entire album.

That is a good way to describe it. Well, when did you realize that the band, your music, could be a job you could live on? That you shouldn't work on anything other than what you like best.

Oh, I think that happened gradually; I never thought I could be a professional singer or be in a band, traveling around the world, but I was lucky enough to be able to pay the bills doing what I love. You know, it's important that you can have fun in the work that you do, and I've never really seen it as a job because I like it too much.

Do what you love and not just work on anything ...

That's right, sometimes you have to do a mediocre job to pay the bills; I suppose most of the time in your life you spend working and it is better for you to enjoy what you do because it is something you will do for the rest of your life.

We know that you really like Tim Burton and some bands, like Muse, are there other artists or musicians that you would consider yourself a great fan of or perhaps some author that you could recommend to your fans?

I am not a great reader. Mostly, at home I am the one with many DVDs and my husband is the one with the books; He is like a mini-bookstore and I am a mini DVD bookstore, although there are things like Netflix now so I haven't bought a DVD in a long time. Musically speaking, I really like Rammstein and I hope, one day, to be able to work with them.

I agree with you, knowing that Netflix exists and you can have any other movie on your computer, it's also nice to be able to go out for a DVD and have a physical copy out of nostalgia for having them and, I don't know, I guess it's the same feeling.

Yes, it is different, we recently bought a new television and we do not have the cable for the DVD player because the one we have does not work with our new TV. Technology is always changing and that makes me feel like a grandmother (laughs), now we must get a new cable to watch our DVDs.

Yes, I feel very old when I see my laptop and it doesn't have a CD player because the technology is always changing.

Yes, everything changes very fast ...
