American heavy metal icons Corrosion of Conformity have returned with a special rendition of “Fire And Water”, the classic song by British rock legends Free, originally released in 1970 on their self-titled album.
The performance came together spontaneously while the band was recording their upcoming studio album, expected in 2026. This new release marks the beginning of Riffissippi Studio Jam Sessions, a collection of improvisational recordings paying tribute to the artists who have inspired the band throughout their career.
Frontman and guitarist Pepper Keenan explained how it happened: “While recording, we had this great setup in the studio, with everything mic’d and ready to go, plus a turntable to spin some of our favorite records. At one point, Free’s ‘Fire And Water’ came on, and Stanton Moore, our drummer, had never heard it before. He jumped up and said: ‘We’ve got to record this!’”.
Although Keenan initially hesitated out of respect for Free’s legacy, the excitement quickly took over. “Someone told me: ‘Sing it your way!’ And that’s what I did. It was fun, relaxed, just friends enjoying rock music.”
The band confirmed that Riffissippi Studio Jam Sessions will remain a fluid and creative outlet, a way to honor classic rock heroes while continuing work on their next full-length album.
