Hardcore icons Converge are doubling down on 2026 with the announcement of a second full-length album this year. Following February’s Love Is Not Enough, the band will release Hum of Hurt on June 5.
According to vocalist Jacob Bannon, the new record “is not a sequel”, but rather the result of a creative process that yielded enough material for two distinct albums. “We created two separate records and treated them as such,” he explained.
While the band initially set out to create a noise rock-oriented record, the outcome diverged into two different directions. Love Is Not Enough leans more toward metal, while Hum of Hurt explores a more emotional hardcore approach.
The title track serves as the first preview, offering a raw and introspective perspective. Bannon described it as a moment of self-reflection: “Looking in the mirror and realizing I am not the man I want to be.”
Conceptually, the album draws from a dark interpretation of the Earth’s hum, imagining it as the cumulative sound of human pain resonating across the universe.
The artwork was created in collaboration with UK artist Thomas Hooper, translating this concept into visuals resembling a mix of EKG signals and seismographic activity.
