Brent Hinds, esteemed guitarist and co‑founding member of the iconic metal band Mastodon, passed away on the night of August 20, 2025, in a motorcycle accident in southeast Atlanta. Authorities report his Harley‑Davidson collided with a BMW SUV whose driver failed to yield at the Memorial Drive and Boulevard intersection. The Fulton County medical examiner has confirmed his death.
At 51 years old, Hinds helped shape Mastodon’s unique sound from the beginning in 2000, alongside Troy Sanders, Bill Kelliher, and Brann Dailor. His work contributed to landmark albums such as Remission, Leviathan, Blood Mountain, Crack the Skye, and Emperor of Sand.
