Black Mountain Festival: Wave of cancellations after far-right accusations

The German goth festival Black Mountain Festival is in the eye of the hurricane, after being accused of communing with far-right policies, after a series of positive reactions were discovered from the festival's account towards the AfD party / Alternative für Deutschland, a political organization known for its radical anti-immigrant, Eurocentric stance.

The director of the event, Jürgen Wichert published a statement, saying that he would have made the reactions personally and submitted his resignation. “Dear friends of the Black Mountain Festival, I am deeply shocked by the hate I am receiving in the comments. First of all, I would like to make it clear without reservation that the reported reactions are solely personal actions, which have absolutely nothing to do with the Black Mountain Festival, employees and fans involved in it. I would also like to sincerely apologize to those affected by this shortsightedness on my part. I would like to make it clear that I have always rejected racism, xenophobia, nationalism, fascism and homophobia. I live in a very tolerant society with people who I value exactly for that and they also value me, among other things, for my openness.”

The festival will take place - or would it take place? - on July 19 and 20 in Waldbühne Schwarzenberg headed by Nachtmahr and the Italians Kirlian Camera who, so far, have not commented on the matter. On the other hand, bands like Erdling, Motel Transylvania and media like Sonic Seducer have decided to cancel their participation in the event.
