BEHEMOTH release Bathory cover “The Return of Darkness and Evil” as Mystic Festival 2026 anthem

BEHEMOTH release a Bathory cover as the official anthem of Mystic Festival 2026, where they will headline alongside Megadeth and Mastodon.

Polish extreme metal band Behemoth have released a new cover of “The Return of Darkness and Evil,” originally written by Bathory, as a tribute to one of the most influential acts in the history of extreme metal. The track, released on April 8, 2026, also serves as the official anthem for Mystic Festival, taking place June 3–6 in Gdansk, Poland.

Originally featured on Bathory’s 1985 album, the song is widely recognized as a foundational piece in early black metal. According to Adam “Nergal” Darski, the track captures the atmosphere that defines the festival, aligning its identity with a darker and more ritualistic aesthetic.

This marks Behemoth’s first major release since their 2025 album The Shit ov God. With this cover, the band revisits a key moment in the genre’s evolution while reaffirming their connection to its European roots.

Behemoth are also preparing for an active touring schedule. They are set to headline the final day of Mystic Festival on June 6, sharing the lineup with Megadeth, Anthrax, Black Label Society, Down, Mastodon and Ice Nine Kills, among others.

Additionally, the band will launch a North American tour starting April 14, 2026, alongside Deicide, Rotting Christ and Immolation.
