Anna von Hausswolff unveils her latest single “Aging Young Women,” a gripping collaboration with Ethel Cain and the final preview before the release of her highly anticipated album ICONOCLASTS, arriving October 31 via YEAR0001.
“The song is about when the passing of time becomes a negative notion due to unfulfilled dreams and the feeling that a tainted situation is impossible to change,” von Hausswolff explains.
Majestic and deeply emotional, “Aging Young Women” merges von Hausswolff’s soaring organ arrangements and choral dramatism with Cain’s haunting presence, crafting an elegy for lost youth and the relentless weight of time.
Produced by Filip Leyman, ICONOCLASTS marks a new chapter in von Hausswolff’s career — a grand, ritualistic journey blending post-rock intensity, avant-garde elegance, and transcendent emotion.
The album features appearances from Ethel Cain, Abul Mogard, Iggy Pop, Maria von Hausswolff, and Otis Sandsjö, whose saxophone lends the record an ethereal cinematic scope.
Conceptually, ICONOCLASTS delves into themes of love, freedom, and autonomy, using the figure of Atlas as a symbol of endurance and spiritual pursuit. It’s both intimate and colossal — a reflection on resilience amid collapse.
ICONOCLASTS combines elements of post-rock, sacred music, electronic experimentation and chamber pop, offering a spiritual and emotional journey that reaffirms von Hausswolff as one of the most visionary creators of her generation.
Following the release, von Hausswolff will embark on a 2026 world tour spanning North America, the UK, and Europe, performing on organ and keys alongside a select ensemble.
