Anna von Hausswolff unveils “Struggle With The Beast” — a haunting prelude to her new album ICONOCLASTS

Swedish composer Anna von Hausswolff releases “Struggle With The Beast,” a nine-minute exploration of chaos, beauty, and transcendence from her forthcoming album ICONOCLASTS.

Swedish composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Anna von Hausswolff has released her new single, “Struggle With The Beast”, a stirring nine-minute opus of ritualistic movement and sonic catharsis. Fusing pipe organ, guitars, percussion, strings, and a magnetic saxophone solo from Otis Sandsjö, the track captures the fragile boundary between madness and revelation.

“I wrote this song after a close friend experienced a psychosis,” von Hausswolff explains. “She seemed to exist in another universe — unfiltered, unstoppable, and strangely brilliant. It made me realize how complex and vulnerable we all are, how many unresolved layers we carry within.”

The song introduces her upcoming full-length album, ICONOCLASTS, her first with YEAR0001, featuring Ethel Cain, Abul Mogard, Iggy Pop, and Maria von Hausswolff. Produced alongside longtime collaborator Filip Leyman, the album expands her sound toward a brighter, more cinematic direction while preserving her signature grandeur and emotional gravity.

In ICONOCLASTS, von Hausswolff reimagines the myth of Atlas as a symbol of endurance and faith amid emotional collapse. Addressing themes of autonomy, love, and transcendence, the record stands as a monument to human resilience and artistic freedom.

Next spring, von Hausswolff will embark on a North American, UK, and European tour, performing with a handpicked ensemble of musicians. Dates include Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Toronto, London, and more.
