Among the new generation of Mexican metal bands, there are a few that stand out for their quality and the tenacity with which they have sought recognition on the scene. One of them is without a doubt S7N, a Chilean group that in just under a decade of existence, has managed to place itself in a privileged place within the national metal circuit and that will crown its work with a presentation at the largest festival of the genre in Latin America, Corona Hell and Heaven.
Seven is a kabbalistic number and full of interpretations in numismatics and religion, etc. What was the real reason for choosing it as the name of your project?
Just that. Each member has some important relationship to that number, in addition to its powerful meaning. The seven symbolizes power, security and wisdom. In addition to that a friend of the band passed away on September 7, 2007, and it is also in honor of him.
It has been a bit of both. Getting together with the right people and never giving up, working and offering a quality product. In this country, many doors are closed to you as an independent metal band, but that has been an impulse for us and to continue working to open other doors.
It has relatively little announced a lineup change on the battery. What was the reason for this change and how have you coupled with your new member?
Personal differences. Within a band it is essential to have a good relationship and communication between the members, since it becomes your second family, so in addition to excellent musicians, we need people who have S7N as their only priority and who embody our ways of working and the goals we have. With the new member we have brutally mated, he is a good friend that we have known for a long time and he is an excellent musician, so we have no doubt that it was the right decision. They will notice the chemistry on stage.
As for the strictly musical, what are you doing right now and what is the next thing to do for S7N in the short and medium term?
We are coupling one hundred percent with the new drummer, preparing the shows to come, and we are already starting to compose new music. This year we will release at least a couple of new tracks, to have a new album next year.
I remember that recently in the last edition of the Knotfest México they took the potatoes out of the fire with the absence of Asesino, remaining in their place. Surprisingly - and more because of the scene in Mexico - there was more support than mentions of this event. How did they take the responsibility of taking the place of such a large band at the time they were notified? What did you think of the response of people on networks and the day of the event? Were they nervous?
It was very rewarding for us. Of course we were nervous but excited to be able to play for the second year at that festival. The responsibility was great, but in the end we accomplished the task. When we got on stage, there were no cries of "Assassin, assassin!" but in the end, the same ones that started screaming that, ended up moving the bush and applauding our show. These types of challenges are the ones we value the most, and for which we continue to give our best in each show.
S7N is one of the bands of a new generation of the national scene that goes with everything. What is the advice that you would send to all the emerging gangs that want to get to where you already are, and higher?
Get ready, a musician never stops learning. Rehearse, do quality things, invest in good equipment, in good recordings, in the image of the band. Work, be consistent, and look for opportunities, and at the same time be prepared to capitalize on them.
In May they perform at Corona Hell & Heaven, the largest metal festival in the country and one of the largest in all of Latin America. What will we be able to see from S7N that day? What would you say to the people who are going to see your presentation, both those who already know them and those who look out of curiosity to see them for the first time?
You will be able to see a frantic S7N, full of energy and power. The show is planned to be a madrazo in the face.
And finished the work, which bands do you want to see and recommend not to miss S7N those two days of the festival?
Phew, we all want to see a good gang. The poster is brutal. From Friday we will not miss Mastodon, Testament, Deadcross, Kadavar, The Darkness, Scorpions and of course great friends and colleagues such as Agora, Cardiel, Maligno, Resorte, The Warning ... On Saturday we want to see Overkill, Judas, Gojira, Megadeth, Ozzy, Killswitch Engage and they also play a lot of friends and talented Mexican bands: Los Viejos, Tulkas, Lack Of Remorse, Strike Master, Tanus, Pressive ... Hopefully we have a chance to see them all.
Seven are the deadly sins. What is the least you can avoid?
Each member of S7N limps on some foot, but all in general lust, auiriuriuriuuuu!
Finally, we leave here this space for any message to your audience that you like to add.
Chingonazo the support we have received from all those who follow us, as well as the media and other gangs. THANK YOU! Let's continue supporting the national scene, not only in large festivals, but in small shows. Live music is an experience that must always be lived. Especially metal. See you at HH!
