Barker and Adam \u201cDJ AM\u201d Goldstein were the only survivors when their plane crashed during takeoff in South Carolina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">The accident killed Barker\u2019s assistant and close friend Chris \u201cLil Chris\u201d Baker, his security guard Charles \u201cChe\u201d Still, pilot Sarah Lemmon and co-pilot James Bland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Barker suffered burns across approximately 65 percent of his body, spent about 11 weeks in the hospital and underwent nearly 30 surgical procedures. His physical injuries were accompanied by chronic pain, grief, post-traumatic stress disorder and a fear of flying that affected his personal and professional life for more than a decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">His BLINK-182 bandmates Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge appear in the film and discuss his life from the perspective of a relationship extending across decades. M\u00d6TLEY CR\u00dcE drummer Tommy Lee and late FOO FIGHTERS drummer Taylor Hawkins are also featured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project was developed over more than ten years, allowing the directors to draw from footage recorded at different stages of Barker\u2019s recovery. The resulting film does not present healing as a single breakthrough, but as an extended process involving medical treatment, therapy, family support and repeated confrontations with fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">After avoiding air travel for years, Barker boarded a plane again in 2021. The flight represented a major step in his treatment for post-traumatic stress and eventually allowed him to resume international travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From temporary replacement to BLINK-182<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">The documentary also examines the professional path that preceded the crash. Barker was performing with The Aquabats when BLINK-182 needed a replacement drummer during a series of concerts in 1998.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">He learned the group\u2019s set quickly and soon became a permanent member alongside Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge. His arrival preceded the recording of Enema of the State, the 1999 album that brought BLINK-182 to an international audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Barker\u2019s drumming became a defining element of the band\u2019s sound. His playing combined the direct force of punk with techniques and rhythmic ideas drawn from hip hop, metal, funk and other forms of percussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">He also developed an extensive career as a collaborator and producer.
