One of his business partners has filed a lawsuit in Maricopa County Superior Court in Arizona, alleging that he was removed from a company venture after reporting what he believed to be illegal conduct.

The lawsuit was filed by Dave Sanclemente, one of four co-managers of Potions, the company behind Thirteen Moons Gin. According to the complaint, Sanclemente claims he was pushed out of his operational role after raising concerns about conduct involving Keenan.

Sanclemente states that he was originally assigned by the company's board to oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of Potions. He further argues that this responsibility was a key factor in his decision to join the venture and that investors relied on the company's representations regarding his role when committing funds to the business.

According to the lawsuit, tensions escalated after Sanclemente submitted a series of formal complaints in the fall of last year. He alleges that approximately one month later, the remaining co-managers, including Keenan, stripped him of his operational responsibilities.

The complaint further alleges that Sanclemente was barred from entering company facilities and that his consulting agreement with Potions was terminated. He contends that these actions were not motivated by legitimate business concerns but instead constituted retaliation for his complaints. In addition to his removal from company operations, Sanclemente alleges that Potions and its management denied him access to corporate books, financial records, company products, and bank accounts. He claims that multiple written requests to inspect company records were rejected.

In the filing, Sanclemente states: "Defendants’ actions were in bad faith and committed solely as a means of retaliation and not for any legitimate business reason."

In addition to his removal from company operations, Sanclemente alleges that Potions and its management denied him access to corporate books, financial records, company products, and bank accounts. He claims that multiple written requests to inspect company records were rejected.

The lawsuit argues that Potions and its co-managers violated both the company's operating agreement and Arizona law by preventing him from accessing corporate records and by removing him from a position he says was central to the company's structure and investor expectations.

As part of the legal action, Sanclemente is seeking court-ordered access to the company's books and records for inspection and copying, punitive damages, attorneys' fees, and additional relief deemed appropriate by the court.

In addition to Maynard James Keenan, the lawsuit names Potions, PotionG — the entity responsible for producing Thirteen Moons Gin — as well as co-managers Tim White and Calvin Arnold as defendants.

At the time of publication, no public response had been issued by any of the defendants. Reports indicate that representatives for the parties did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

While Keenan is internationally known for his work in music, he has also built an extensive business portfolio in Arizona over the years. Beyond his spirits ventures, he owns Merkin Vineyards and Caduceus Cellars, both well-known wine operations in the region.

The case remains in its early stages, and the allegations outlined in the complaint currently represent only the claims made by the plaintiff. Any findings regarding wrongdoing or liability will ultimately be determined through the legal process.

Maynard James Keenan, reconocido por su trabajo al frente de Tool, A Perfect Circle y Puscifer, enfrenta una nueva controversia fuera del ámbito musical.
