Directo desde Austrialia y en un descanso en su participación en el Soundwave Festival, Summa Inferno tuvo la oportunidad de platicar con Thy Art Murder.

¡Hey!, ¿Qué onda? ¿Qué hay de nuevo en el cubil de Thy Art is Murder?
¡Acabamos de empezar en el Soundwave! Ya llevamos dos shows. Ahora tenemos un par de días libres antes de reiniciar en el Festival.
Su último álbum “Hate” fue lanzado en 2012, ¿Ya están trabajando en su nuevo material?
¡Si, ya estamos en eso! Sean está tirando la casa por la ventana, así que podrás esperar nuevo material en el futuro cercano.
Y bueno, hablando de Soundwave, estarán tocando al lado de grandes bandas como Green Day, The Dillinger Scape Plan y Avenged Sevenfold, supongo que se convertirá en un gran escaparate para ustedes…
¡Absolutamente! Es una gran oportunidad para tocar para un montón de personas que no nos han visto o que ni siquiera nos conocen. Y por supuesto, para convivir con muchos cuates que vienen del otro lado del océano.
Y después, se van a tocar a Estados Unidos con Emmure en Marzo y Abril…
Correcto. Estoy demasiado ansioso por esos shows, seguramente será un tiempo genial.
A través del tiempo, han sufrido un sin fin de cambios en su alineación. ¿Les cuesta trabajo definir un sonido propio con una rotación de miembros tan seguido?
Pues no, no realmente. Sean siempre ha sido el escritor clave en la banda desde los inicios, es por eso que nuestro sonido no se ha alejado tanto entre cada lanzamiento.
¿Y como definirías ese sonido…?
¡Estoy seguro que la gente podrá ponernos en un montón de subgéneros! Death, Peppermint… “Sandwich de Jamon y queso Metalcore”… Pero la mejor manera que se me ocurre es simplemente, ‘modern metal’.
Y bueno, ¿Qué tal anda la escena metalera en Australia? Ya sabes, estamos un poquito lejos y nos es un tanto difícil seguirla.
La escena del Metal aquí está creciendo todo el tiempo y produciendo una enorme cantidad de grandes bandas. Muchísimas bandas australianas están por todo el mundo siendo headliners, así que con un poco de suerte, podrás ver las por ti mismo pronto.
Le eche un vistazo a sus redes sociales y me di cuenta que les agrada interactuar y bromear con sus fans. Eso es genial, en serio…
¡Es que los fans son la razón por la que podemos hacer todo lo que hacemos! No seríamos nada sin su apoyo, por eso tratamos de interactuar con ellos tanto como sea posible.
¿La industria musical ‘regular’ está muerta y ha sido reemplazada por Internet y las redes sociales?
La industria musical no está muerta y te aseguro que solamente es un dolor en el trasero. Las redes sociales solo han hecho que muchas bandas se den a conocer y se publiciten de una manera mucho más fácil. Pero la gente debería ir y comprar las copias físicas de los discos, eso es lo que realmente está muriendo.
México… ¿Algún plan para visitarnos próximamente?
¡Estaríamos encantados de ir y tocar algunos shows en México! Te aseguro que haremos todo lo que este en nuestras manos para estar ahí lo más pronto posible…

We’ve just started
Soundwave! 2 Shows in, have a few days off before we get back in to it.
Your last album, “Hate” was released in 2012, are you working in new
material?
We are! Sean has been riffing the house down, So expect some new
stuff in the near future.
You will be in Soundwave with bands like Green Day, The Dillinger
Escape Plan or Avenged Sevenfold, I guess this could be a great showcase
for the band…
Absolutely! It’s a great chance to play to a lot of people that might not
have seen or heard of us before. Also a great chance to catch up with
mates from overseas.
And also you will be on the road with Emmure across USA in March and
April…
Correct! looking forward to those shows, Should be a rad time.
In time you suffered several times, line-up changes. Is hard to define
a sound with new members in the band as often?
Not really! Sean has been a key writer from the start, That’s why the
sound has never strayed to far apart from each release.
How could you define your own music?
I’m sure there are 1000 different sub genre’s people put us in to such as
Death, Peppermint, Ham & Cheese sandwhich core, But the best way to
describe it I think is just modern metal!
What about Metal scene in Australia? We´re a bit far and not so aware
as we could wish…
The metal scene here is growing all the time and producing a lot of great
bands! A lot of Australian bands are heading overseas at the moment, So
hopefully you’ll be able to check them out for your selves!
I saw your social networks, and seems you like to joke and interact
with your fans. That´s cool!
The fans are the reason we are able to do what we do! If it wasn’t for
their support, The least we can do is interact with the as much as
possible.
Is the “regular” music industry dead? Social Networks are the present and
the future?
The music industry isn’t dead, It’s just a pain in the ass. Social
networking just made it a lot easier for bands to advertise and promote
them selves! People should go back to buying psychical copies, That’s
what’s really dying.
Mexico. Any plans to visit us?
We would love to come and play some shows in Mexico! We’ll do our best to
get out there as soon as possible!
